Project Overview

My client, a travel agency, wanted to create a mobile app that allows travelers to easily book and manage their travel arrangements, including flights, hotels, buses, trains, and rental cars. They wanted the app to be accessible to all users, including those with color vision deficiencies. I thought the best way was to complete the task was to design the UI while using IBM's colorblindness palette.

My Role

As the UX Visual Designer for this project the main challenge for this project was to ensure that the app is visually appealing and easy to use, while also being accessible to users with color vision deficiencies. I had to choose colors that are distinguishable by all users and create a clear hierarchy of information that is easy to navigate.

Design Process

Wireframing and Prototyping

Using Figma, I developed wireframes and prototypes focusing on a clear, intuitive layout. The goal was to ensure essential information and actions were easily accessible and distinguishable.

Applying IBM’s Colorblindness Palette

IBM’s colorblindness palette was integrated into the design to enhance visual accessibility. This palette was selected for its ability to provide sufficient contrast and clarity, ensuring that the app was usable for individuals with various types of color vision deficiencies while maintaining a modern, professional look.

Icon Design

The icon design features a sleek, modern look that combines vibrant colors from the IBM color palette tocreate a visually appealing and functional design. The icon is designed with rounded edges, creating afriendly and approachable aesthetic.

Design Elements

Rounded 25%: The icon incorporates a 25% rounded design, softening the edges and giving it a more polished and contemporary feel.

Gradient: The main body of the icon features a gradient blending from the vibrant orange (#FF932F)to the bold purple (#BA26FF), creating a dynamic and eye-catching effect.

Arrow Symbol: A white arrow is centrally placed, symbolizing direction, movement, and progress. The arrow's clean lines contrast sharply with the colorful background, ensuring it stands out and is easily recognizable.

Visual Impact

The combination of these elements results in an icon that is not onlyaesthetically pleasing but also effective in conveying its intended message. The use of vibrant colors and clean design elements aligns with modern design principles, ensuring that the icon is both functional and visually striking.

Iterative Testing and Feedback

Usability tests were conducted with users, including those with color vision deficiencies. Feedback was gathered and used to refine the design iteratively, ensuring that the final product met the needs of all users.

Reflection

Overall, My role as an UX designer would be to ensure that SkyTrip's interface is visually appealing, easy to use, and accessible to users with colorblindness. My use of the IBM colorblindness palette or other design techniques would be crucial to achieving this goal and contributing to the overall success of the app.
