Project Overview
Plug Up is an electric car charging app designed to provide a seamless and user-friendly experience for EV owners. The app aims to help users easily locate charging stations, manage their charging sessions, and monitor their charging progress. As a freelance UX designer, I was hired to improve the existing app and deliver an enhanced user experience.
My Approach
I approached the project with a user-centered design mindset, focusing on extensive research and iterative design processes. The goal was to gather insights from users and competitors, identify pain points, and develop intuitive solutions to improve the app's usability.
Research
I conducted user research through interviews with EV owners to understand their needs, behaviors, and pain points related to charging their vehicles. Additionally, I analyzed existing charging apps to identify industry best practices and potential areas for differentiation.
Prototyping and Wireframing
Using low-fidelity wireframes, I designed clear and intuitive interfaces that addressed user needs and pain points. The wireframes showcased key features, such as a map view with filter options, station details with real-time availability, and a simplified reservation process. I then transformed these wireframes into interactive prototypes using a prototyping tool, allowing for user testing and feedback.

Visual Design
The visual design phase involved creating a visually appealing and consistent UI design. I incorporated a clean and modern aesthetic with a color scheme that evoked a sense of sustainability and energy. The typography and iconography were chosen to enhance readability and provide clear visual cues for users.
Testing and Iteration
I conducted usability testing sessions with EV owners to evaluate the app's usability and gather feedback. Users found the redesigned interface more intuitive and appreciated the added features, such as the ability to filter charging stations based on preferred criteria. Based on user feedback, I iterated on the design, refining elements and addressing usability issues.
Outcome and Impact
I conducted usability testing sessions with EV owners to evaluate the app's usability and gather feedback. Users found the redesigned interface more intuitive and appreciated the added features, such as the ability to filter charging stations based on preferred criteria. Based on user feedback, I iterated on the design, refining elements and addressing usability issues.
Reflection
By applying a user-centered design approach, conducting research, developing user personas, creating intuitive user flows, and iterating based on user feedback, the Plug Up app successfully enhanced the electric car charging experience. The project showcases my ability as a freelance UX designer to deliver impactful solutions that address user needs and improve the usability and effectiveness of digital products.
